The upgrade of the existing 6 bed ITU facility to a 5 bed facility included the provision of a temporary ITU facility within the existing HDU facility.
Works included new bed hoists and pendants, an internal steel frame and an upgrade of the medical gas services.

Vision: Modernise existing facility to meet current healthcare standards and to enhance the patient environment.
Challenge: Maintain the existing ward by moving patient to an obsolete HDU facility and then reconfigure the ITU ward without interrupting the emergency services.
Solution: Reroute and upgrade all medical gases, nurse calls and fire alarm systems within the new ITU and existing HDU wards. Access to the works area avoided any interaction with public or patient route through the hospital.
Benefit: Allowed Trust to replace existing equipment with modern patient specific pendent facilities.
